Join us for an evening with Anne Dodd

23rd May 2022

Ken and Anne Dodd

We’re delighted to announce that the wife of national treasure, Sir Ken Dodd, will be giving a talk about life with the comedian here at Birdsall House, this July. The event is in aid of All Saints Burythorpe Repair Fund, Malton.

The former Bluebell Girl, Anne, met Sir Ken in 1978. They enjoyed life together until he sadly died in 2018. The couple married two days before he passed away. ‘My life with Sir Ken Dodd’ will be an evening of stories, anecdotes and laughter recounting her life with one of the country’s best loved comedians.

Sir Ken Dodd won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ITV Comedy Awards in 1993. He had 18 chart singles in the UK Top 40. Ken also won a Guinness World Record for the longest ever joke telling session.

We will be hosting Anne on Tuesday 5th July.  All money raised from ticket sales will be donated to Burythorpe Church, also known as “the Church on the hill” as it sits above the village of Birdsall. The donations will support the Church’s renovations. We have collaborated with organiser Sarah Jones and Anne Dodd to bring this fascinating evening to you. Sarah and James, who was formerly Bishop of Liverpool, became friends with Sir Ken and Anne Dodd while living in Liverpool and have moved to Burythorpe during retirement.

It is an absolute pleasure to finally be hosting this event. Discussions started just before the pandemic hit, so it’s been a long time coming. This is a chance to hear about an extraordinary life in a beautiful, historic house, all while raising money for a local cause.

The evening will begin at 6.45pm with a prosecco reception in the gardens. If the weather is against us, we’ll move into the Long Hall! Guests will then be able to enjoy Birdsall’s ballroom while receiving an hour-long talk from Anne Dodd.

Tickets, including reception drink, cost £15. To book email cara@birdsallhouse.com or call 07976 939564.
