Five ways to style a historic house so it reflects you

21st Jul 2022

We’re so proud of our heritage here at Birdsall. You can read more about our history and family here. However, one concern couples sometimes have is how they can style their wedding so it is unique to them. Here are five examples of how couples have made their wedding here bespoke and stylish while making the most of our décor and historic building. After all, having renovated one of our upper floors into six luxury bedrooms in 2017, we know a thing or two about making a stately home beautiful, tasteful but in keeping with modern style.

Lighting

Pippa and David used lighting on the driveway up to the house to create a glittering atmosphere next to our twelfth century ruins. In fact, lighting is used frequently to give our grounds the wow factor once the sun goes down.

Flowers

Tabs and Nick said their vows in the Church within our grounds before moving to the house and grounds to celebrate. We loved the use of flowers, around the entrance to the Church to create a real country, spectacular, look. These beautiful florals were by Lucy Macnicoll.

Vintage vibes

There are some choices you can make for your wedding that can make a real statement. Lindsay and Gareth created a timeless, classic feel with their choice of car from Superior Motors. People often associate stately homes with the 1800s but forget about all the history between then and now which can be really fun to incorporate.

The vintage vibes kept on coming with this bike they also placed within the grounds…

Stationary

Of course, what you choose for your table plan, place cards and menu can really reflect your life, hobbies or style. Rebecca and Danny wanted to reflect some of Danny’s culture in their styling including these cute table names:

Use the grounds

If you have a theme or idea that you nod to inside the house, why not use the grounds to really go all out? Rustic Rose Company and Dittany Entwined created a beautiful whimsical winter wedding theme for one couple. They transformed our woodland into a wedding space that was truly magical.

We are always open to styling ideas, so why not get in touch? Arrange a viewing of our beautiful historic house and we can take it from there. Our wedding coordinators can also recommend some fabulous, Yorkshire based stylists.
